Fight Day Jan 23

Posted by Ace Of Clubs On January - 27 - 2010

I woke up at about 9:30 AM.  Immediately got up and checked my weight, and was relieved to see I was still where I needed to be.  I made some pasta, got my gear ready and spent what little time I had left with my girl friend.  I left our apartment at about 10:30 and it takes about an hour to get Winston Salem.  The drive to the Benton Convention Center was a little rough.   I arrived safely, and the weigh ins were on time.  I weighed in at 154.8lbs.  Right after i stepped off the scale i drank some Pedialyte and ate some of the pasta i cooked.  I then proceeded to go to the Olive Garden and had Spaghetti and Meat Balls, as it is becoming my ritual.  After Olive Garden, I went to the book store to hang out and relax.  I had family call me telling me they arrived at a hotel near where I was.  I went to the hotel and fell asleep for about 15 minutes.  Before I needed to report back to the Benton Convention Center at 4 pm.  I arrived and and quickly did my doctors physical.  At this point I was very tired and could barely function.  It was told to me that I looked like walking death, my eyes were complete encircled with black.  I found a spot on the floor used my gym bag as a pillow and fell asleep for about an hour.

My rest was one of the best ones I had, and it completely did the trick.  I spent a little while longer just relaxing before the fight was scheduled to begin.  Going into this fight I was not nervous at all.  It was a strange feeling.  I was very calm.  I was not angry, I was not scared, and I was not nervous.  I did my warm up and when it was finally my turn.  I walked out to the walk out platform and did my jumping around and stretching out. I had a huge smile on my face.  One that people said looked crazy or that I really enjoy what I did, and to be honest I have to say I do greatly enjoy it.  I love the competition.  I love not being able to hide behind the aspect of a team.  It is one persons hard work versus another persons hard work.  And tonight I was all smiles.  Of course the DJ did not play the music I requested, which is not a surprise they have not done so yet why would they start now.  But it was a good song.  I felt the urge to play to the crowd.  I stepped out did some slight motions to the crowd and strutted/bounced down to the ring.

Once I entered the ring and the fight was about to start I finally let my adrenaline spike.  The fight started off and i was circling feeling out my opponent.  I had no info about my opponent and did not want to rush in to anything.  I accepted a few kicks and my corner told me they wanted me to attack, so I decided to throw out a testing jab cross.  The punches I tossed out were not a hard punches, but they just happened to land at the correct spots.  My opponent buckled and attempted to pull me down.  I landed on top of him mounted him then tried to drag him to my corner.  My corner told me to sit back get my hooks in and get to work, so that is exactly what I did.

My opponent was both humble and friendly.  I cannot express how impressed I was with his post fight demeanor.  I spent the next few fights with my family that attended the fight.  After the MMA events, I went to my main Sponsor XO Tapas wine bar and lounge off I77 exit 28 and celebrated with the best burger I have ever had.  This too is customary.

Well here this has been a quick look into preparing for my fight, during the fight and post fight.  I want to thank my training partners could not have done it with out them.  Crossface MMA on exit 28 Cornelius, Scrap for putting on the show, and of course XOs for sponsoring me from the very beginning.

There are some exciting new developments that are currently developing.  As soon as they are certain and I am able to post them I will let everyone know about them.

No Responses so far.
